The interdisciplinary issue of life has always been open to discussion for philosophers and scholars of empirical sciences. In Islamic philosophy, especially in Transcendental Philosophy, this issue has been addressed in detail. Life is studied as a transcendental matter from Mullā Ṣadrā’s perspective. Mullā Ṣadrā considers life to be the equivalent of existence, but what he means by existence is abstract existence. Accordingly, wherever a being is realized, life is also realized; that means, the being is either merely abstract, in which case its life will be intrinsic, or a mixture of abstract and material, in which the life of such an entity is through its existence and its abstract dimension. Therefore, all material entities, from inanimate objects to humans, enjoy life. This is while in biology, life includes only a part of the creatures of the natural world. In this research, first the definitions of biological and conscious life, the similarities and differences of these two definitions are presented, and then the differences and similarities of the examples of life are explained from the perspective of philosophy and biology. Ultimately, it seems that the interaction between biological sciences and philosophy leads to a more accurate understanding of the issue of life.
